Janice Johnson Artist's Statement
My primary interest is the unexpected details of fruit, vegetables and flowers. Capturing my "up close and personal" experience with plants is what my work is about. My early education was in botany and horticulture. After a career in agri-business a diagnosis of MS forced me to rethink how else I could use my abilities. Creating art work pulls together all the essential pieces of "me", a means to make a living and a meaningful place in the world. My Original watercolor paintings, prints and notecards are brilliantly colored, bold designs suitable for cheerful occasions and contemporary settings. I produce cards and prints from my paintings using digital technology. This technology enables me to produce cards on demand and prints custom made to the buyer’s size and framing wishes. I work at Chestnut Hill Studio in Mineral Point, Wisconsin with my artist husband. My work may be seen at Howdle Gallery in Mineral Point from April through December or anytime by chance or appointment.
